Who is Jesus?

Who is Jesus?

The good news about Jesus is referred to as the “GOSPEL” — it is what the Bible is all about. The word Gospel means “good news” and it can be summarized in 6 phrases – using the acronym G.O.S.P.E.L!

Read through these 6 phrases below that summarize the whole Bible.

We think you’ll begin to see why it’s not simply “good news” but THE BEST NEWS EVER!

“G” IS FOR “GOD”

GOD created us for a relationship with Him.

God created us in his image, made for a relationship with him. This message is found in the first few chapters of the Bible. Summarized in another verse (Psalm 100:3) it says “Know that the Lord, He is God. It is He Who made us. We are His people…”

“O” IS FOR “OUR”

OUR sins separate us from God.

When our first parents rebelled against God, the relationship with God was broken. This is found in the third chapter of the Bible. Now all are born separated from God under the curse of sin. As another verse (Romans 3:23) summarizes “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.”

“S” IS FOR “SINS”

SINS cannot be excused, or removed by our own efforts.

Every religion in the world says that we should do more or try harder to take care of our sin problem. However, the Bible’s message is completely different than that. It says that no amount of good works can take away sin. In fact in one verse (Isaiah 64:6) it says that even “….our righteous acts are like filthy rags.” Like one trying to jump across the Grand Canyon, our best efforts could never save us.

“P” IS FOR “PAYING”

PAYING the price for sin, Jesus Christ died and rose again.

This is where it gets so amazing! God saw us in our helpless mess and did something to save us. His holiness could not just “sweep sin under the rug” — the penalty needed to be paid. So in the most amazing love imaginable, He sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to become human and take on Himself the penalty for all sin. Jesus lived a perfect life and then died a tortured death, ultimately rising from the dead on the third day to offer full forgiveness to all who put their trust in Him. The first part of the New Testament section of the Bible records this. It is said beautifully in this verse (Romans 5:8) “God demonstrated His love for us in this way: that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

“E” IS FOR “EVERYONE”

EVERYONE who trusts in Him alone has eternal life.

Isn’t this amazing? We can receive this incredible gift of forgiveness and a restored relationship with God by trusting what Jesus did to save us. Can you think of better news than that? This message is highlighted in the Bible through the book of John and can be summarized in this verse (John 3:16), “For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him, shall not perish but have everlasting life.”

“L” IS FOR “LIFE”

LIFE with Jesus starts now and lasts forever.

Eternal life doesn’t just start when we die. It starts now and goes into eternity! So many search for meaning and fulfillment but this is where real life is found – a restored relationship with the One who made us. The last section of the Bible closes with this truth.
