At the end of July, a group of 22 from our youth ministry (River) went down to Lead the Cause in Orange County for an inner-city mission and training trip. Four years prior to this trip, Pastor Luke took a smaller group down to LTC (Lead the Cause) Portland and the focus of our youth group has been changed ever since. When the Portland group came back, the cause above every cause, the cause for Christ, completely took over our youth ministry and we as a youth group really started focusing on sharing the gospel. Four years later, the majority of our youth has been able to go down and experience what a life changing event LTC is, for themselves.
LTC is a week where Dare2Share ministries equips teens and young adults from around the globe to effectively share their faith and the gospel. This year in Orange County there were four main topics for each day.
The first day taught us the importance of prayer. To get into the practice of praying, we spent the entire day going around the campus praying for certain topics or people. For many in our group, this was the first time prayer had been seen as such a powerful priority in our walks as Christians. Itzel Ceja had this to say about the prayer experience, “It was really cool to pray for other Christians in the church. I know I don’t know any of the missionaries, but that was one of the highlights of the day! It’s important to pray for God’s work and I’m glad that was shown to me.”
The second day was focused on caring for people. This day was spent teaching our group about the needs of the people around us. We took that day to partner with the Dream Center and did an outreach in the park involving food, games and devoting our time to help people with their particular needs. Having gospel conversations was of course encouraged, but the main focus of that day was taking the time to listen and care for people in any way that we could. For Conor Smith, the experience was very eye opening. “The experience made me realize just how many hurts and troubles many people go through. Sometimes even Christian people. The cool thing about taking the time to care for others, is that many of the times, people want to know why. At that point you can point to Jesus.”
The third day at LTC was special because we put into practice everything we learned so far, and started sharing the gospel. The LTC team instructed us to go out to certain places around Orange County and literally start having gospel conversations with strangers. At first, our group was almost discouraged, as many of the people we talked to were not receptive to the gospel at all. However, within the first hour 2 people put their faith in Jesus. These people’s commitments to God set our group on fire. Even the most timid among us were sharing their faith with anyone they saw. Our group was talking to lifeguards, pedestrians, beachgoers and everyone in between. The experience really had a big impact on Lily Germick, “At first we were really discouraged, but then we shared with a guy and he accepted Christ! It made us realize it’s really important to keep on sharing even after being rejected, because there’s so many lost people out there and when you share with just one of them, God can start something amazing.”
The fourth and final day we spent at LTC was focused on the concept of daring each other to continue to share our faith as we went home. On that day, we as a group devised ways to keep the gospel fire burning in our hearts. During this time, smaller cause groups were formed, the group talked of ways to bring this back to the rest of our youth group, and most importantly, we prayed that God would do mighty works through us as we journeyed home. Laura Strathy took this from the experience, “Personally, the dare day brought the training to a close by putting all the pieces together. The first three days got me so pumped up with what God could use me for, but when the speakers compared the progress of one person verses numerous living the Cause, it all kind of made sense. Christ can call all ages of his people to teach and encourage other Christians, and with God’s guidance, the result would be extremely effective and electrifying.”
Overall, the trip had an amazing impact on our youth group. LTC really changed many of the group’s outlooks on life. Even as we went home, we were actively looking out for people to share with. One thing is for certain, and it is that wherever God takes us as a group or even as individuals, we will be an active part of God’s mission.
5 Reasons to invite your friends to Dare2Share Live.
Hey, my name is Conor! I was a student who attended Dare2Share Live last year and I wanted to write a little bit about my experience.
First off, you may be asking, “What even is Dare2Share Live?” Dare2Share Live is a one day prayer, equipping and outreach event that connects thousands of different churches across the nation all at the same time. It is an action-packed 7 hours that energizes, trains and unleashes teens to share Christ with the world. Here are 5 reasons to attend!
Reason 1: It’s In Your Region!
Sometimes going to a conference can be intimidating because you have to travel forever to get there and when you do, it is full of people you don’t know. One of the cool things about Dare2Share Live is that while it is an event involving many different churches, it is also accessible as there are nearly 100 satellite locations all over the nation! This gives you the opportunity to connect with the students in your region and also make more of an impact on your local area.
Reason 2: Nation Wide Event That Is Part Of A Movement!
One of the reasons Dare2Share live is awesome is because it’s not only is an event that you can attend locally, but it is also a movement that is catching fire within youth groups across the nation. This means that while you are doing things in your area, people on the other side of the continent are active in the same things at exactly the same time! I remember last year that I had a real sense of unity with the church as a whole as I saw the outreach map light up all over the country on the Dare2Share App.
Reason 3: Meet New Friends!
While the event connects many churches and peoples around the nation, it also connects churches and peoples in your community. Dare2Share live gives opportunity for you to connect with other youth groups and teens throughout the day. For me, it was really cool to see all the other youth groups in the area that were so on fire for God.
Reason 4: High Tech and Engaging!
Sometimes people can be wary of going to a conference because they aren’t sure it will be engaging enough, or they are afraid it will be too outdated. You don’t have to worry about this at Dare2Share Live! It is a three-screen event involving a screen broadcast from Denver, a local screen (with onsite worship team and Emcee) and the screen of the app built just for the event! To me, the app was one of the coolest aspects of Dare2Share Live as it was so intentionally designed with awesome tools to see and engage in the Cause of Christ.
Reason 5: It’s not just about you.
My final reason to go to Dare2Share Live is that it’s not just about you. I’ve always enjoyed going to camps and conferences but it seems like the focus is mainly about my experience. In a culture that is so focused on self, it is really refreshing to see an event that equips me to reach out to others! When I left the event last year, I could see that God had used my life that very day to touch others and I was left with a greater passion for the Cause of Christ.
I’m very excited to see what God has in store for this next Dare2Share Live and I hope to see you there!
Evergreen 3 is comprised of dedicated Christians whose desire is to serve Jesus Christ through the ministry of music. They specialize in Southern Gospel music, and blend timeless hymns of old with some of the newest songs written today. Woven throughout the songs are Bible verses, personal testimonies, and inspirational stories that enhance the message of the music. Although Evergreen 3 hopes that you are thoroughly entertained by their performance, their purpose is not so much to entertain as it is to encourage Christians in their spiritual walk and to introduce unbelievers to Christ.
Live in concert at Atonement Free Lutheran Church October 7th at 6:00pm. A free-will offering will be received.
Snohomish County Host Site will be taking place at Jake's House Church in Arlington. 9:00am-4:30pm
The theme of Dare 2 Share LIVE 2018 is “Rock Your City” and is based on Acts 4:31 – “After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.”
This is exactly what will happen on October 13th as teens from all over the country join together in their individual communities. As they are trained to share their faith, their hearts will break for their lost friends, and they will be unleashed onto their own streets to serve and share with boldness. Each of the communities surrounding the 99 satellite sites will be rocked with the gospel. A message that will begin in the hearts of each student will reverberate outward into a national movement of gospel conversations.
Starting Wednesdays this fall, we will begin our Kids' Club for children age 4 through 6th grade. We are in need of volunteers who are energetic, dedicated and able to encourage kids in God's Word and truth. We look forward to hearing back from you! Please contact Randy Tendering (Children's Ministry Coordinator) at 425-359-2687.
