Andy and Monica attended the Association Free Lutheran Bible School (AFLBS) in Plymouth, Minnesota, where they first met. Andy completed the Ministry Training Institute, an extension program of AFLBS, which allowed him to minister in Petrozavodsk, Russia for a five-month internship.
They served together on short-term missions to Russia for several years and were married in August 2003. Both Andy and Monica received their B.A. degrees in Intercultural Studies and Communications, respectively, from Northwestern College in Roseville, MN.
Sensing the call for ministry training, Andy began the seminary program at the Association Free Lutheran Theological Seminary (AFLTS) in Plymouth, MN. During his time of study, the Coyles’ call to mission was confirmed, and plans were made to help start a Bible School in Russia. Visa restrictions closed the door in his final year of seminary, yet at the same time God opened a door to pastoral ministry. Upon graduation and ordination in 2008, Andy began serving at Salem & St. Paul’s Lutheran Churches, in rural Radcliffe & Jewell, IA.
In late 2009, God opened a new door to ministering in Ukraine- one that has since remained wide open. A trip to Odessa in May 2010 confirmed God’s call for them to help start a Bible Training Center near Odessa. The Coyles raised funds through the first half of 2011, and on June 29th, 2011, they arrived in Odessa. They are focusing their initial time in Ukraine on language study, and getting better acquainted with the ministry of Pastor Alexander Gross, as well as the German Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ukraine (GELCU).
